Pioneering Initiative: PPGCB Theater - Vaccination: Protecting Today, Ensuring Tomorrow

In 2024, during the 10th edition of the Scientific Dissemination and Popularization Exhibition for Basic Education organized by the PPGCB, a pioneering initiative at the institution was introduced: the use of art, represented by theater, to enhance methods of science communication and popularization in a playful and engaging way. Considering the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of vaccines in eradicating the disease, and the controversies surrounding vaccine denialism, the play is titled “Vaccination: Protecting Today, Ensuring Tomorrow”. It addresses the history of vaccines, from the creation of the first vaccine to the present day, culminating in a final scene that emphasizes how vaccines save lives while debunking myths and fake news propagated during the pandemic, which still negatively affect vaccine uptake among the population.

Through theater, the initiative aims to facilitate the dissemination of information and understanding of the importance of vaccines for health, especially among elementary and high school students. These young individuals are seen as future citizens who will make critical decisions. By receiving accurate information at this stage of life, they will be better equipped to discern appropriate solutions to social challenges that may arise, relying on science as a trustworthy source for shaping their understanding and decisions.

The recording of the PPGCB theatrical performance "Vaccination: Protecting Today, Ensuring Tomorrow" is now available on the PPGCB YouTube channel. Visit https://youtu.be/q66-ZoTYVJs?feature=shared and enjoy this pioneering initiative by PPGCB!
